Value

Sector

Rail (Heavy Rail, Metro, Light Rail, Stations)

Project Overview

The project forms part of Sydney Metro City & Southwest, the second stage of Australia’s first driverless metro system, extending 31 kilometres from Chatswood to Bankstown. The Sydney Metro Southwest Station Upgrades involve the transformation of existing stations along the Bankstown Line to support the introduction of high‑frequency, fully automated metro services. The works modernise station infrastructure, improve accessibility and safety, and enhance customer experience to meet the operational requirements of the new metro network.

The upgrades typically include new and extended platforms, improved wayfinding and passenger information systems, accessibility enhancements such as lifts and compliant pathways, upgraded interchanges, new canopies and weather protection, and modernised services and systems to integrate with the metro’s signalling and operations. These works are delivered within a live rail environment, requiring careful staging to maintain passenger services throughout construction.

As a critical component of the Sydney Metro program, the station upgrades support the transition of the Bankstown Line to a modern, high‑capacity metro corridor. The project strengthens network reliability, improves travel times and accessibility, and contributes to the broader transformation of Sydney’s transport system.
