Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment

Project Overview

The project involves the major redevelopment of Shoalhaven Hospital, delivering a state‑of‑the‑art expansion that significantly increases clinical capacity and enhances access to advanced medical care for the region. The new facilities include a modern emergency department, specialised mental health and cardiology wards, and a substantial increase in surgical services, doubling the number of operating theatres to support both emergency and elective procedures. The expansion will be directly connected to the existing hospital, which will also undergo targeted refurbishment to improve functionality and patient flow.

The redevelopment includes enhanced ICU, imaging and rehabilitation units, a new helipad for emergency transport, and upgraded infrastructure to support contemporary models of care. By addressing high occupancy rates and growing demand for acute, aged care and specialised services, the project strengthens the region’s healthcare resilience and ensures residents can access high‑quality treatment closer to home.

The project balances complex clinical requirements, live‑hospital interfaces and significant operational upgrades, underscoring its importance to the Shoalhaven community and the broader NSW health network.
